Celebrating the City that Never Sleeps, our program combines the legendary sounds of Bernstein’s West Side Story and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with music star Fazil Say in the role of pianist and conducted by Bernstein’s student John Axelrod. The New World Symphony by Antonín Dvořák, written from the point of view of an immigrant to a new continent, is one of the hits of classical music, whose recording was taken to the Moon in 1969 by the crew of Apollo 11, led by Neil Armstrong.
